The Impact of Sports Injuries

School age kids are very active in sports. Sports provide so many developmental, physical and social benefits in kids. However, the effect that sports injuries have on kids health and development should be something that all parents are aware of. It’s with awareness and education that as parents we can make the best choices to support our children through sports and propel them on to a healthy life!

With sports there are many different areas and specifics I could discuss, but i’ll be focusing mainly on the concerns of injuries that affect the spine, head, neck and nervous system.

As a chiropractor I see many kids involved in sports and sports injuries. We end to approach the injuries from a different perspective and prioritize the health of the spine and nervous system in order to promote recovery and healing.

Lets start of with discussing the common cause of injury. Impact is typically the cause of a sports injury, such as a direct blow to the head. We commonly see this with concussion or CTE patients. Other times it’s an impact with the ground or another person that causes strain, sprain, tearing of ligaments, or misalignments. Impacts can be deceiving while the body often bounces back and appears to adapt to them rapidly, there are often many underlying issues that begin to develop that may not present symptoms for many years.

This is where awareness is key, because even though our children appear to be fine and unaffected by an impact there are still changes that occur within the body. Studies show that with the forces that occur during the impact that causes a concussion that they cause misalignments within the spine in every single occurrence. Even with impacts that do not led to a concussion there are still strong enough forces to cause misalignments of the spine. Now these misalignments may or may not be symptomatic initially. However they cause interference within the nervous system, affect range of motion and proper joint bio-mechanics, result in increased muscle and ligament tension and pain. This is the source and root cause to many degeneration processes that people experience later on in life.

By utilizing regular chiropractic care throughout the sports season the health of the spine can be maintained. Regular Chiropractic adjustments help align the spine into a state that promotes proper joint function and normal bio mechanics. This is the key to unlocking better performance in all sports. Chiropractic care does even more though, adjustments allow for better nervous system function throughout the body. This allows for faster reaction times, better focus, clarity/less brain fog, rapid healing responses and less muscle tension. Chiropractic care can help your athlete not only perform better but also have a healthier season and be set on a path of lifelong health and wellness rather than paying for the degenerative effects of old sports injuries. It is a huge investment opportunity we have with the health of our youth today.

Are you one of those adults that is dealing with the degenerative affects of sports? It’s not to late, while it may take a bit more work and effort, chiropractic care can still help you! chiropractic care can help you improve your health, prevent further degeneration and in some cases allow the body to heal and begin to reverse the degeneration process. Have questions? Curious how chiropractic can help you with your specific sports injury?

Give us a call and we would be happy to discuss the details of what you could expect with chiropractic care.
